The U.S. and Ukraine also agreed to finalize a deal allowing America access to Ukraine’s critical mineral resources.
“Trump and Zelenskyy will conclude as soon as possible a comprehensive agreement for developing Ukraine’s critical mineral resources to expand Ukraine’s economy and guarantee Ukraine’s long-term prosperity and security,” the statement said.
This is no coincidence.
For years, Ukraine has sat on some of the world’s most valuable mineral deposits, including lithium, nickel, and rare earth metals—the key components in everything from AI technology to advanced weapon systems.
Washington has long wanted access to these minerals—and now, with Ukraine in a weakened position, the U.S. has forced it to sign away those resources in exchange for continued support.
This raises serious geopolitical questions:
